What is ICD-10 Codes?

ICD-10 is the 10th revision of ICD (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health problems), a medical classification list by the WHO (World Health Organization). It helps healthcare providers and revenue cycle management (RCM) specialists identify and code health conditions, signs and symptoms and treatment rendered to the patients. ICD-10 codes have successfully replaced all ICD-9 code sets; it allows for tracking of many more diagnoses. Providers need to use them under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) to keep medical information private and secure. ICD-10-CM has over 70,000 codes, making it more comprehensive than ICD-9.
